Janmashtami

There is a big day coming up – Janmashtami! Lord Krishna’s birthday is celebrated by devotee’s across the country – some who observe lot of rituals this day while the others keep it simple.  

While the celebrations are high on this auspicious occasion, Ms. Purvi Parikh, the owner of the home decor store Tranceforme, shares how one can adorn their homes for the festive season. 

a) Flowers: This is one of the most common way to decorate temples and puja areas. Lord Krishna is fond of fragrant flowers. You can decorate the temple with these flowers weaved into into long strings that you wrap around his jhula too.

b​) Rangoli: This is one of the most traditional ways to decorate your house on a festival. Make a colourful rangoli in front of the temple of your house to welcome the arrival of Lord Krishna at midnight.​

c​) Paintings: If you wish to keep it simple, you may ​adorn a beautiful Pichwai painting on your wall. 

d) Create a dahi handi: Lord Krishna loved curd. You may decorate a handi, fill it up with curd and hang it. 

e​) Decorate Bansuris: Lord Krishna loved to play bansuri or flute.​ You can either hang them as decoration or just place them near the temple, they will surely add lot of fervour to you Janmashtami celebration.​

f) Lighten Up: No Indian festival is complete without lights. Use a lot of lights in your home in the form of diya’s to brighten up the room. ​
